25 NOV 2020

On the occasion of completion of 3 years of UMANG App, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Communications and Law & Justice unveiled the newly instituted UMANG Awards for Partner Departments of Centre and States based on average transactions in the past six months across all services. Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has been conferred with Platinum Partner Award for registering more than 25 lakh transactions on UMANG App.

As majority of EPFO members are from the socio-economically disadvantaged sections, an accessible and affordable solution was needed to reach out to crores of subscribers. Considering the popularity and ease of usage of internet based devices like smart phones, Kaios feature phones, tablet and desktop, EPFO aimed to harness the potential of UMANG app to enable easy and round-the-clock access to its services, especially to the subscribers residing in remotest of locations. This led to the launch of EPFO services on UMANG.

Using UMANG App, EPFO members can access 19 different services of EPFO on their mobile phone. A member can view passbook, activate UAN, raise claim, track claim status, apply for scheme certificate, seed aadhaar with UAN, update JeevanPramaan, register grievance, search establishment, get office address etc. For availing these services an aadhaar seeded active UAN (Universal Account Number) and a mobile number registered with the EPFO is required.

UMANG App has been a big hit among EPFO subscribers enabling them to utilise services in hassle free manner from the comfort of their homes even during COVID-19 pandemic. During the current financial year from 1st April to September 2020, a total of 7.91 lakh claims have been filed by the members on UMANG App. UMANG has enabled members overcome the mobility restriction induced by COVID-19 pandemic in accessing services and thereby reduced the need to physically visit the offices of EPFO.

EPFO’s services have been the most popular on UMANG app. Of the 42.63 crore hits the app has clocked from October 2019 to September 2020, 37.93 crore hit pertained to EPFO’s services. With 88% eyeball on UMANG, it may not be an exaggeration to claim that EPFO has been a key driver of UMANG’s popularity.

By facilitating simple and effortless access to its services from a single mobile app, has been able to bring a major shift from e-governance to m-governance giving power and convenience in the palms of its members throughout the country. UMANG app has emerged as a crucial tool for EPFO to provide Nirbadhie online, seamless and uninterrupted service to its members.

Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions
Redresasal of Public Grievances

19 DEC 2018

As per the data available on the online Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS), the year-wise number of grievances received and disposed off during the period from 1.1.2014 to 13.12.2018 in respect of Ministries/Departments of Government of India is as under:

There has been about fivefold increase in the number of grievances received in CPGRAMS from 2014 to 2017. The rate of disposal has also kept pace with the number of grievances received during the period. High rate of disposal has been achieved since the Government has taken every possible step to put in place a strong Grievance Redress Mechanism.

Government has taken several steps to make the Grievance Redressal Mechanism effective for quick disposal of public grievances which are as under:

(i) Review of Grievances of identified Ministry/Department is undertaken every month during meetings conducted on PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) platform.

(ii) For effective monitoring of grievances at Secretary level, an electronic Dashboard has been created showing the consolidated status of grievances disposed and pending, on CPGRAMS. Weekly reminders through SMS are also being sent for pending grievances.

(iii) A Grievance Analysis Study in respect of top 20 grievance receiving Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations listed on CPGRAMS for identifying grievance prone areas, their root cause analysis and suggested systemic reforms for reducing such grievances, has been carried out by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances. Several suggested systemic reforms have been implemented by the concerned Ministries/Departments. Some of these reforms are: automatic refunds on cancellation of Railway Tickets, Single Window Pension through disbursing Banks, intensive mechanized cleaning of coaches, e-verification of Income Tax Returns, expeditious Income Tax Returns upto Rs.50,000/-, etc.

(iv) In continuation of the Grievance Analysis Study in respect of top 20 Ministries/ Departments receiving maximum grievances on CPGRAMS, another Grievance Analysis Study for next 20 Ministries/ Departments receiving bulk of the grievances has also been carried out by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances.

(v) A Public Grievances Call Centre has been set up for reminding the concerned officials of top 40 Ministries/Departments/Organizations for expeditious disposal of grievances pending for more than 2 months.

(vi) An Award Scheme has been launched for recognising outstanding performance with respect to disposal of grievances on CPGRAMS on a quarterly basis through issue of Certificate of Appreciation.

(vii) Review meetings are being taken on regular basis with the representatives of Central Ministries/ Departments for monitoring pendency of public grievances.

(viii) Training on CPGRAMS is conducted on regular basis.

(ix) A new Mobile App which is more user-friendly for lodging of public grievances has been developed. The Grievance Action Status can also be viewed on the mobile itself. This has been integrated with Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG). This initiative also facilitates lodging of grievance anywhere anytime.

This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr. Jitendra Singh in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

New Initiatives by EPFO to provide services and timely information to all stake holders

25 APR 2018

EPFO has taken a number of e-initiatives to provide services and timely information to all its stakeholders in tune with the government’s motto of minimum government and maximum governance. It has now been decided to publish the age-band wise estimate of all new subscribers as declared by their employers. The new employees have been categorised in six age bands like less than 18; 18-21; 22-25; 26-28; 29-35 and more than 35years of age. The information can be accessed at https://epfindia.gov.in. This data can be helpful in policy making, planning and research work as the planners may have an idea as to what is the estimate of employees in different age band.

EPFO has so far been intimating its members by way of SMS on credit of their respective monthly contribution into their accounts. Now, credit information is available through e-passbook online and UMANG mobile App as well as through missed call service for all members. EPFO members whose monthly contribution is regularly received may view their contribution details using any of these options.

However, the members whose contributions are not deposited in time remain uninformed. It has now been decided that an intimation by way of SMS/email shall be sent to members who have registered their Mobile Number / email ID against respective Universal Account Number.
