This week may bring cheer to central employees and pensioners

Central Government employees and pensioners will find reasons to celebrate this week. The union cabinet is likely to clear some long awaited demands for it’s staff in the next meeting later this week The F.M., currently on foreign tour, likely to return India on 26th February and after which cabinet meeting is likely to take place.

According to information available with us, merger of 50% D.A., an additional hike of 10% D.A. from 01.01.2014, granting of Interim Relief and enhancing retirement age to 62 years are under the consideration of Govt. and some of these are to be approved in the next cabinet meeting.

As the notification of loksabha poll may be issued in the first week of March, this would be the last cabinet meeting before the code of conduct comes into force.

So the central employees and pensioners may definitely hope for some bonanza to be announced this week.

It may sound like ridiculous as number of times articles regarding this topic has published in different websites and newspapers. But as per our sources and media reports, centre finally decided to hike retirement age to 62 years. The process has received PM’s nod and awating cabinet approval which is likely to be obtained in the next meeting.

The newly set up seventh CPC has recommended this hike in an interim report which got Govt. approval.
As per information available with us, this move will not benefit those who are going to be superannuated in this month or those who are already in extension.

We have heard it so many times . Every one of us got tired of hearing this rumour again and again. But this time this news may not fade away just as a rumour.

Because the series of events that had happened until now listed below are telling that it will be come true soon.

1. Though there is no any demand from any corner to raise the retirement age of central government employees to 62 years, a parliamentary panel has recommended a proposal to increase the retirement age of government servants to 65 years. The report of the standing committee of Parliament on social justice and empowerment tabled in the Parliament on 7th of this month. Ample justification also was given for their recommendation to increase the retirement age.

2. A reliable source close to a Cabinet Minister told that, the Cabinet Minister himself, while addressing to the Trade Union Wing of his party told ‘the Central Government would announce some important decisions in respect of central government employees within a week or two. This will be good news for all the central government employees.’

3. A close ally of a Central Minister told that, in a meeting held with the leaders of the state unit of his party day before yesterday, the Minister told the Leaders ‘a proposal of increasing retirement age of central government employees to 62 years has been waiting for Cabinet nod. It is expected that the cabinet will clear this proposal within a week. After it gets the Cabinet Nod, the formal announcement will be made by Central Government before the Election announcement.’

The above information clearly indicates that some Good News for Central Government Employees are waiting to be announced within a week or two. All the central government employees know what that good news is!

The expected good news will be either increasing retirement age or Merging 50% DA with Basic Pay or Both!

Several thousands of Central Government Employee’s expectation to know about the extension of retirement age has not yet been concluded which is believed to be announced today in PM’s Independence day speech.

As everyone knows, the government has planned to extend the retirement age of all central government employees by two years — from the current 60 to 62 years. The department of personnel and training (DoPT) has also already begun the work to implement the same.

Last time, the government extended the retirement age of central government employees in 1998. It was also a two-year extension from 58 to 60. This was preceded by the implementation of the 5th Pay Commission.

Employees are now eagerly look forward to know about the decision on this matter of Retirement age and hoping to get a fruitful solution.

New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) Central government employees are in for a disappointment as the Centre is at present not considering any move to raise the retirement age to 62 years.

A senior official in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, which acts as nodal department for personnel matters, said there was no such proposal to increase the age for superannuation of government employees.

An exclusive review of Retirement age 62 for central government employees

It has been seen that one of the long time waging demand of raising the retirement age of government employees has finally caught afire.

Through the Medias and blogging sites are abound with news that the cabinet would announce news regarding the retirement age yet it has not been finalizes.

Even then it has been come to known that a favorable decision would be put forth regarding this issue due to the oncoming lok sabha and three state assembly elections.

In India the retirement ages of most of the state government employees range from 58 to 60. This is low in comparison to the government employees of foreign nation.

We shall see the effect of raising the retirement age in the following passage.

Advantage

1. If only 7th pay commission would be implemented in the year 2016 those retiring in the year span 2014 -2016 would be greatly benefitted.

2. Economically the employees would be in better position due to this rise of the age of superannuation

3. The pension amount and the other beneficiaries would also increase along side

4. There this chance of imparting fruitful experience to the subordinates or new recruit by those benefitted by rise in retirement age

5. More over there is chance of getting an additional MACP by the central government employees

6. A good health psychological effect would prevail in their minds due to this boon of rising their retirement age and thus removing their fatigue

Disadvantage

1. Promotion would be greatly affected due to no retirement in the long span

2. Unemployment would come in to being due to the increase in retirement age

3. Output of work would be greatly affected if the retirement age of unhealthy employees would be increased.

This announcement would not be received in praise among those searching for employment in general

Moreover among the retirement employees this decision is receiving a mixed response as some welcome while others detest it

CENTRAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT AGE TO BE EXTENDED BY TWO YEARS (2) TO SIXTY TWO (62).

The government is planning to extend the retirement age of all central government employees by two years — from the current 60 to 62 years. Sources said that an in-principle decision has been taken in this regard and the department of personnel and training (DoPT) has begun the work to implement the same. A formal announcement to this effect is expected this year itself.

The last time the government extended the retirement age of central government employees was in 1998. It was also a two-year extension from 58. This was preceded by the implementation of the 5th Pay Commission, which had put severe strain on government’s finances. Subsequently, all state governments followed the Centre’s policy by extending the retirement age by two years. Public sector undertakings followed suit too.

The Union Government is seriously considering raising the retirement age to 62 for Central Government employees. Obviously, if the Congress announces this before the Lok Sabha polls, it could expect a sizeable vote share. North Block, which houses the Union Ministry of Finance would be more than happy to have 62 years as the retirement age because for next two years the pension funds can accumulate.

The UPA2 also wants to put the next government in fiscal tight spot, or what is called the War Room effect of the AICC.
