Cabinet approves setting up of 50 new Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country under Civil / Defence Sector

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal for opening of 50 new KendriyaVidyalayas (KVs) under Civil / Defence Sector in the country keeping in view the high demand for these schools for their quality of education and excellent results.

The total project cost based on KendriyaVidyalayaSangathan (KVS) norms for the proposed 50 new KVs is Rs.1160 crore.

New KVs will be opened from classes I to V for which 650 regular posts shall be created in all 50 KendriyaVidyalayas. The school grows every year with addition of one more higher class and, when the school grows upto class XII and becomes a full fledged school with two sections in each class, there shall be a requirement of about 4000 regular posts of various categories i.e., about 2900 teaching posts and about 1100 non-teaching posts. These new KVs when fully functional will provide quality education to approximately 50,000 students in addition to the approximately 12 lakh students already studying in present KVs.

The new KVs will address the educational needs of eligible students with high quality standards and will play a role of pace-setting educational institutions in the districts concerned.

Background:

The main objective of KVS is to cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Government employees including Defence and Para-military personnel by providing a common programme of education. There are at present 1142 functional KendriyaVidyalayas under the KVS including three abroad at Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran.

The KendriyaVidyalayas are considered as model schools in the country in terms of physical infrastructure, teaching resources, curriculum and academic performance. KendriyaVidyalayas as pace setting schools have consistently turned out excellent academic performance as is evident from the Board Results of Class X and XII exams conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

1. KV Students: Admissions in different streams viz. Science, Commerce, Humanities of Class XI in KVs for KV students who have passed Class X will be regulated as follows:

The Seats will be allotted as per the rank in the merit list prepared as at (o) above vis-a-vis number of vacancies available in a particular stream in the Vidyalaya and as per the option of stream exercised by the student. The Seats will be allotted as per the rank in the merit list prepared as at (a) above vis – a-vis number of vacancies available in a particular stream in the Vidyalaya and as per the option of stream exercised by the student. However, the Class Strength will be fixed by the Principal of the kendriya Vidyalaya concerned in following manner.

The total No. of applications received from students of the same KVs from neighbouring KVs which are upto Class X or not having the desired stream. If any, plus no. of students failed and detained, etc. in class XI (including all streams) would be divided by the number of sections of class XI available in the KV (including Science, Commerce and Humanities streams) and the quotient arrived at, will be the maximum strength of each section of class XI of that KV of each stream. For example, if 200 applications are received from some KV and neighbouring KV which is upto Class X and 12 students failed in class XI (Including all streams in the school) and 4 sections of class XI (2 Science, 1 Commerce and 1 Humanities) are available , then 200+12 = 212/4 = 53/ 4 53 would be fixed as maximum strength of each section of Class XI. However, the maximum strength to be fixed should not be less than 40. Thus a combined merit list (including students from neighbouring school which are upto class X or not having desired streams) would be prepared. As per the option given by the students and maximum number per section as fixed (above), admission would be granted in each section (including detained students) eg: if 53 is the class strength fixed in a particular stream, 3 students are detained in that stream 53- 3=50 students would be admitted (including students from neighbouring schools which are upto class X, if ay).

In case of two or more candidates obtaining equal CGPA, the inter-se merit of such candidates may be determined as follows: (i) Candidates obtaining higher grade points in Maths will get precedence in admission. (ii) If two or more candidates have got the same grade points in Maths, then the candidates securing higher grades in Maths and Science taken together will get precedence over the others. (iii) In case of a tie between two or more candidates obtaining same grade points in Maths and Science taken together, the student older in age as per the D.O.B. will be given precedence over the other.

KV School New Uniform 2012 : KV Sangathan has advised to parents of KV students to get new uniforms from anywhere, there is no recommendation on particularly to buy materials from any vendor or manufacturers. So many varieties of materials and readymade stitched uniforms are available in major cities of India. Though, KVS has informed as follows…

“KVS is receiving the queries regarding the vendors/firms to be short listed for the supply of uniform for the students studying in Kendriya Vidyalayas. It has also come to the notice that some schools are giving a wrong notion about the availability of changed uniform through selected vendors.
In this regard it is clarified that neither the KVS(HQ) nor any Regional Office of KVS has recommended any vendor or firm for student’s uniform. The parents are free to get the uniform for their wards from anywhere they like. All Deputy Commissioners are requested to bring it to the notice of all concerned”.
